Great Smoky Mountain Council
2009 Philmont Contingent
 
The Great Smoky Mountain Council is accepting applications for the 2009 Philmont contingent.  The projected itinerary is to depart from Knoxville on Thursday July 16, 2009 and return on Wednesday July 29, 2009.  The projected cost of the trip is $1700.  The fee includes air fare, PSR tuition, pre-trek excursions and lodging, and council uniform items.
 
The contingent will consist of 36 youth and 12 adults.  BSA units may have no more than 12 total participants of which no more than 6 can be in any individual Philmont crew.  The trek is open to Boy Scouts and both male and female Venture Scouts.  Youth participants must be at least 14 by January 1st, 2009 or are 13 and have graduated the 8th grade by the departure date.  Please note that both youth and adults must be in shape and will be subject to weight limits.
 
Applications are currently being accepted for youth and adults.  Youth will be first come first serve until May 1st, 2008.  There are 12 slots for adults and applications will be accepted until May 1st, 2008.  Qualified adults will be chosen from the available candidates at that time.  If the youth have not filled their slots by May 1st, 2008 then 4 more qualified adults may be added at that time.
