> Questions have been raised regarding the requirements for Boy Scouts to participate in Unit Elections for membership in the Order of the Arrow. In particular, it has been asked whether there are any specific requirements for age or tenure in Boy Scouts. The answer to these questions is NO, there is no particular age requirement and no tenure (years in Boy Scouts) requirement. The only requirements for a Scout to participate in a Unit Election to be considered for youth membership in the OA, as stated in the Order of the Arrow Guide for Officers and Advisers, are that he:
>
> * Have the approval of his unit leader prior to the election.
> * Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
> * Hold the First Class rank of the Boy Scouts of America, as a minimum.
> * After registration with a troop or team, he must have experienced a minimum of 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the two-year period prior to the election. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.
>
> No additional requirements for membership may be imposed, and none of these specified requirements may be waived.
>
> Hopefully each Chapter is well into the process of scheduling the Unit Elections for your Chapter and organizing and training your Unit Elections Teams by this time. If you have not already done so, I would ask that each Chapter please forward to me the contact information (name, telephone numbers, email) for your Unit Elections Chairmain and his Adviser, as well as a brief statement of the unit election plans and schedule for your Chapter.
